Hace poco visite a Juan un viejo amigo de mis tiempos de escuela en su apartamento, llegue en el “preciso” momento en el que su sobrina se dirigía al shut del edificio. La niña tenía una gran sonrisa, entendí que no era por mi llegada pues hace poco la conozco, sin tener que preguntar Juan me dice que “Ella disfruta muchísimo tirar la basura por el shut”, su comentario me llenó de curiosidad y en el momento que Juliana volvió al apartamento le pregunté porque disfrutaba tirar la basura, la niña se sonrío una vez más y me describió su sensación al escuchar caer la bolsa por un tubo de más de 30 mt, ese sonido que para ella es especial y a la vez extraño al rozarse la bolsa con el conducto, acción que la llevaba a imaginar que en esa caída libre la bolsa se desintegra y desaparece, pero que después de unos segundos vuelve a la realidad al escuchar un estruendo por la velocidad alcanzada, al terminar su descripción me pregunta ¿sabes a donde va esa basura?
No puedo negar que me sorprendió su pregunta, e incluso porque muchas veces cuando saco la basura me doy cuenta que no logro disminuir los desechos y que al contrario pareciera que cada vez produzco más. Volviendo a la pregunta de Juliana lo primero que se me ocurrió fue responder “al carro de la basura”, Juliana me vuelve a insistir ¿y luego del carro de la basura?, me quede en silencio, ella sonrió una vez más y se fue a continuar con sus actividades.
Me dejo muy pensativo, ¿a dónde va esa basura?, ¿qué podrían hacer con ella?, ¿será qué la forma en que la separo es la correcta? e incluso ¿Cómo me sentiría si al abrir por la mañana la puerta de mi casa me fuese devuelta la bolsa de basura que deposite fuera la noche anterior? Aunque hoy las escuelas, instituciones y gobiernos nos invitan a separar y a reutilizar, parece que es un asunto que a pocos les importa pero que en definitiva está conectado con la forma en la que consumimos y eliminamos.
