Generalmente, el ahorro aparece como un propósito prioritario en los sondeos que se les hacen a los colombianos. Sin embargo, son pocos los que hacen efectiva esa intención, pues siempre existirán gastos que desplazan esa extraordinaria alternativa de construcción de estabilidad, futuro personal y familiar. A lo anterior se suma la percepción arraigada de que el salario no alcanza y es insuficiente para atender los compromisos económicos del día a día. Pese a lo anterior, una revisión cuidadosa de los gastos mensuales puede mostrarnos que esta percepción no es tan cierta y, de hecho, nos ayudaría a encontrar algunos que son innecesarios o se pueden restringir.
A propósito, en días recientes una compañera de trabajo me relataba, muy contenta por cierto, cómo en una revisión de sus gastos mensuales encontró que estaba teniendo un gasto excesivo en transporte. Y todo porque, sin darse cuenta, por los afanes diarios, siempre le tocaba tomar taxi, lo cual no solo le estaba costando dinero, sino que además le generaba mucho estrés, ya que salía corriendo de la casa y llegaba a Confiar sobre la hora de entrada. Consciente del asunto, decidió el remedio: levantarse media hora antes para salir sin afanes, tomar el metro y llegar con tiempo a la oficina, respirar, saludar a la gente, tomarse un café y disfrutarlo, además de lograr un ahorro mensual superior a cien mil pesos.
¿Cuánto pueden ser cien mil pesos? Si uno se gana un salario de un millón de pesos mensuales, equivale al 10%; y, si se gana dos millones, equivale al 5%, un porcentaje cercano al aumento salarial. Y, así como éste, hay muchos otros casos sencillos, como el de regular el consumo de agua, que no sólo afecta al bolsillo sino, además, a la naturaleza.
